Seventh meeting of Pak-Iran Joint Committee on Road Transportation

The Seventh meeting of Pak-Iran Joint Committee on Road Transportation was held from June 6-7, 2011 in Islamabad. H.E. Mr. Shakeri, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in his speech delivered in the inaugural ceremony of this meeting, referred to the efforts made by our country in the expansion of transit trade cooperation as well as transportation in all spheres including road, air and railway transportation. He stressed the need for exploiting the entire existing potential for expansion of trade relations between the two neighbouring and Muslim countries, namely Iran and Pakistan.

Therefore, Mr. Arbab Alamgir Khan, Communications Minister of Pakistan, while welcoming the guests present, noted: "the Government of Pakistan attaches great significance to bolstering merchant navy fleet and infrastructure of transit and transportation along the land routes leading to Iran and access to European markets (via Iranian route). Today's meeting, duly participated by the experts of the two counters with be held in this same connection".

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Mojarrad, Director General, Transportation Affairs of Terminals of Sistan Balochestan Province headed the Iranian delegation while the Pakistani team was headed by Mr. Abdul Basit, Senior Director General, Ministry of Communications of Pakistan.

At the end of this meeting, a joint cooperation document on expansion of land transportation cooperation between the two sides was signed.

The next meeting well be held in Iran.
