Visit of H.E. Mr. Ahmadinejad, Honourable President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to Islamabad

In the afternoon of February 16, 2012, H.E. Mr. Ahmadinejad, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while leading a high-ranking delegation in response to the invitation of H.E. Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, Honourable President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, arrived in Islamabad in order to attend the trilateral session of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

The Iranian President, after proceeding to the Presidential Palace(Aiwan-e-Sadr), was received by H.E. Mr. Zardari, the Prime Minister, the Ministerial Cabinet and the high-ranking officials of Pakistan, and was presented a guard of honour. Later, the Iranian and Pakistani delegations held bilateral talks.

The Iranian delegation, subsequently, met and conferred with the Prime Minister of Pakistan at the Prime Minister's Secretariat concerning bilateral relations. H.E. Mr. Ahmadinejad, in continuation of this visit, met with the President of Afghanistan, and the two sides stressed the need for expansion of relations in various spheres.

The Presidents of the three countries of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, by attending the trilateral session, called for the expansion of cooperation among the three countries in order to realise the aspirations of their peoples for establishment of peace, stability and economic progress. In conclusion of the trilateral session, a joint statement concerning the expansion of cooperation among the three countries was signed by the Presidents of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
