Meeting of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the Chairman of Pakistan Senate's Foreign Relations Committee

Mr. Alireza Haghighian, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran in Islamabad, met with Mr.Salim Saifullah Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Senate's Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday, February 2, 2012.

In this meeting, Mr. Haghighian, referring to the expanding relations between Tehran and Islamabad, stressed the importance of parliamentary link between the two countries, and boosting of bilateral cooperation and trade and economic ties. Senator Saifullah Khan, in this meeting, pointed to numerous common cultural and religious traits between Iran and Pakistan and laid stress on the need for unity and solidarity within the unified Islamic Ummah. He, in criticizing the unilateral policies of the American Government towards Pakistan and the region, laid emphasis on the resistance of the Parliament and the people of Pakistan for maintaining solidarity and independence of their country in countering such type of unilateral policies.

 

He, while stressing the backing of the Government, Parliament and people of Pakistan for the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and referring to the comments of the Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran about prohibiting the use of chemical and nuclear weapons, described utilization of peaceful nuclear energy by Islamic Republic of Iran as an undeniable right. The Chairman of the Pakistan Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, while terming the imposition of sanctions against the Islamic republic of Iran as a vain endeavor and pointing to the appreciable progress made by Iran, stated: Imposition of sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran will undoubtedly entail in further progress and development of Iran.
